This Sunday is the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time
This Gospel reading (Mark 10:46-52) is about the perseverance and faith of Bartimaeus, who was blind. He begs by the roadside until one day he hears Jesus coming and calls out to him, even though others tried to keep him quiet. He had so much faith in Jesus that he was given his sight. Jesus told him, “Your faith has saved you”. Bartimaeus then became a follower of Jesus. Let us pray that we may always be able to listen for Jesus’ voice calling out to us, like he called for Bartimaeus in the Gospel.
Dear Parents and Carers
What a fantastic week we have had. So many students have received Dojos for being respectful, responsible, resilient and resolute. Congratulations to all students who have gained so many rewards for wonderful behaviour. Respect has particularly been noted as students enter the school grounds in the morning in their interactions with staff on the front gate. We have certainly enjoyed the opportunities to be outside on the playground again with some sunshine this week.
Kindergarten 2022
We have continued our communication with families that will be joining our school community in 2022. We ask these families to please take the opportunity to begin your engagement with Seesaw and get to know the other children and families. We have been planning some wonderful activities for the children to engage in when they come on their Story Time and Orientation visits.
1. Story Time: There will be three sessions to choose from, we ask that every child attend one session on Saturday 27 November and one of the weekday sessions. To register your child for these sessions go to www.schoolinterviews.com.au and enter the booking code - tk827 and choose the times that suit you.
• Monday 15 November - 9:30am to 10:30am or 1:15pm to 2:15pm
• Thursday 18 November – 9:30am to 10:30am or 1:15pm to 2:15pm
• Saturday 27 November – 8:30am to 9:30am, 9:45am to 10:45am or 11:00am to 12:00pm
2. Orientation Sessions: This year, each child will have the opportunity to attend three on-site transition session. We ask that your child attend all three of these sessions.
• Wednesday 1 December – 9:30am to 12:00pm
• Friday 3 December – 9:30am to 12:00pm
• Tuesday 7 December – 9:30am to 1:00pm
Please pack lunch, a piece of fruit, a water bottle and a hat for your child on these days and ensure that your child wears closed in shoes.
3. Parent Orientation Information Night: Tuesday 7 December commencing at 6:00pm to 7:00pm
Year 5 students have begun the process of nominating for student leadership in 2022. This week candidates were introduced to their peers and grade voting took place. Thank you to those students who have made applications for these important roles. We are excited to follow the leadership journey in the next few weeks.
There have been a lot of inquiries about the availability of the new uniform items. Please don’t feel any pressure to purchase the new design if your child still has a current uniform that fits as there will be a changeover period to support families.
The new uniform items will not be available for sale until the Uniform Store opens for January trading on 4 January 2022. Lay-by is available prior to that time. Please contact St Agnes Uniform Store on 6584 1076 for further information.
This is how lay-by will work:
- Sizing can be gauged using the existing uniform items.
- The lay-by will be set up and a deposit taken.
- Progress payments can be made.
- Lay-by can be collected in January.
- Sizing will be checked at the time of collection and adjusted if required.
Some of our senior students have been having conversations with staff about the current uniform policy. We appreciate the support from families who are ensuring the correct items of clothing are worn. Excess jewellery, incorrect jumpers and hair not being tied back off the face for learning and to prevent the spread of head lice have been discussed. Socks in particular have been a topic of conversation. Currently students are required to wear plain white socks with their sports uniform (no logos or images).
New Students
Welcome to the following new students that have joined us this week:
Indigo Duncan in 4NS and Lila Duncan in 5M
Baby News
We would like to congratulate Francis Borja from 4NS on becoming a big brother to Maia who was born on 14 October.
Staff Professional Learning Day
St Agnes’ staff will participate in a Staff Professional Learning Day on Friday 19 November. On this day staff will receive input from Bishop Greg Homeming, with a focus on the topics of Truth, Spirituality and Goodness. All staff in the Diocese of Lismore are required to complete these modules each year. We appreciate the support of families making alternative arrangements for their children on this day as staff will be off site to complete this learning.
Accendere is a student discipleship retreat designed for our Year 4 students. Students will be involved in activities relating to friendship, encouraging showing love to others in our class and school. It is about accepting others as Jesus did. This will be held at school on Friday 10 December. More information will be sent to families closer to the date.
With October being the month of the Rosary, students have been learning about the significance of this beautiful prayer and its purpose. These mysteries represent the significant events in the life of Jesus Christ. The Rosary is often used as a guide for other Catholic prayers. These prayers are related to challenges or celebrations in the life of one praying the Rosary or on behalf of another for whom the prayers are said.

Road Safety Message
With the recent increase in children riding their bikes to school, we thought it was the perfect time to remind everyone of how important it is to wear a helmet. Please visit Transport NSW Information to learn about helmet standards and correct helmet fit.
Below is a short video from Safety Town about helmet safety.
Year 4 Writing
Thank you to the Year Four Team for sharing their amazing writing samples with me this week. After a very difficult decision, I have included two samples from Chloe Chilko and Mitchell Hagenbach.
The Year 4 team have shared their learning intention and success criteria to help you understand their learning goal.
Learning Intention
We are learning to enhance descriptions by evoking imagery in the reader's mind.
Success criteria
I will utilise the senses in my descriptions in order to transport my reader to a place or time
I will include various language features in my descriptions such as similes, metaphors, personification.

Creative Arts News
This week is a special week in Creative Arts throughout the world as we saw World Ballet Day 2021 being celebrated. During Creative Arts lessons this week the students had the opportunity to view some snippets of the live stream day showing behind the scenes, training, costume design, sneak previews of rehearsals and exclusive behind-the-scenes content from some of the up and coming productions of the Australian Ballet. Some of our students joined in with the fun of the World Ballet challenge this year which was “Jump for Joy”.

Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union
We are currently looking at the feasibility of entering teams into the Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union competition for 2022. We are considering several options, including school based teams or parish based teams, and would hope to enter teams into the U10s and U12s competitions, and would look at the U8s if there was enough interest.
The games are held at the same time on Friday night at Stuart Park in Port Macquarie. While it is a competitive season, the focus is on enjoyment and playing in the right spirit. Absolutely no playing experience is needed, and both boys and girls would be encouraged to play. We will be sending out a survey shortly, but in the meantime, if you believe your child would be interested in participating, and if you would be willing to help out with coaching or assisting in other ways, please contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au
Swimming Carnival
We are hopeful that with the continued easing of restrictions that our school swimming carnival will go ahead at the end of this term. The focus of this carnival is participation and fostering a sense of school spirit.
Traditionally, we have welcomed parents and families as spectators to this event, and it is our hope that this will be the case this year. We particularly appreciate parent help on the day, and the annual Teachers Vs Parents race is always a highly anticipated (and hotly contested!) highlight.
Some schools use their end of year swimming carnival to double up as a selection event for their zone team to compete in the Hastings Zone Swimming carnival in February of next year. However, it is felt that holding a separate selection trial at the beginning of next year gives our potential competitors the whole of the summer break to improve, and that our junior swimmers in particular will benefit from this.
Summer Sports Trials - Cancelled
Unfortunately, the Hastings Summer Sports Trials which were scheduled to take place in Kempsey this term have been cancelled. We will announce a new date when it is announced in the new year.
Dear Families,
We hope your children are enjoying Term 4. It is great to be back into routine and school.
We had our monthly P&F meeting on Monday. Many thanks to the parents, Principal Ginaya and teachers for your time. It was a great meeting and we covered many items. Lots of exciting things ahead. We will share the meeting minutes in next week’s newsletter.
One item that was discussed was if any parents/businesses in our local school community are aware of grants and offers available to our school children/families and P&F Association can you please get in touch and let us know. We would love to share with our school community.
Have a fabulous weekend!
