11th Sunday Ordinary Time
This Sunday’s parable depicts the growth from small and simple beginnings. The mustard seed is the smallest of seeds but once planted grows into the largest of bushes capable of providing shelter and rest for the birds of the air. Jesus chose the symbol of the mustard seed to remind us that He accepts the ordinary, the lowly and wants all of us to be part of His Kingdom. God’s Kingdom started off small, with just a few followers taking shelter with Jesus. Over time it grew and more sheltered and found a home.
Dear Parents and Carers
What an exciting week we have had at St Agnes’ this week. We have been so lucky to have the Sydney Dance Company bring an amazing experience to our students. We sincerely thank Mrs Trish Todd and the organising team for facilitating this for our children.
Winter Woolies Wednesday
This year the St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal focuses on child homelessness.
At Monday morning assembly some of our student leaders shared information about child homelessness in Australia. We were shocked to learn that 116,000 people don’t have a permanent, safe place to sleep. At St Agnes’ our goal is to provide students with a deeper understanding of poverty and injustice, so our young people are empowered to change the world. The Year 6 Ministry Team will continue to share information to create awareness about homelessness and helping others.
On Wednesday in Week 10 we will be holding a fundraiser “Winter Woolies Wednesday”. Students are asked to come to school in their winter woolies and bring a gold coin donation. This money will go towards buying items for the homeless. Throughout that week we are also asking for donations of clothing and blankets to be brought into the school hall. These will be sent to St Vincent de Paul in order to support those in need. The Ministry Team will sort and organise all items on Thursday 24 June.
Craft for Service

Music Ministry
Next Sunday St Agnes' School is providing the Music Ministry at the 5:00pm Mass. We are excited that 60 students are wanting to join the choir to sing at this Mass.
Thank you to Jessica Stewart and Tatiana Bye who are organising our talented singers. We welcome all families to come along and join us at this Youth Mass.
School Mass
All parents, carers and family members are welcome to join us in the school hall on Tuesday 22 June at 12:15 pm to celebrate Mass as a school community. Throughout next week, the Ministry Team will be sharing information with classes to help us understand more about the Mass. Thank you to our student leaders for assisting with this.
Confirmation Registration Evenings
Parents and carers of students wishing to make their Sacrament of Confirmation this year are invited to the Registration nights on either Monday 21 or Tuesday 22 June. These will be held at St Agnes’ Church at 6:00pm. Childminding will be available. Information has been shared with potential candidates. The Sacrament will be installed by Bishop Greg Homeming in early August. Please read the note linked below for more information and contact the office if you have any further questions.
School Zone Safety
As parents you should take the opportunity to talk with your children about getting to and from school safely. Here are some safety tips:
1. Be alert and aware by traveling distraction free. Ask children to take off their headphones when walking.
2. Choose a safe place to cross. The fastest way, may not be the safest way. Stop! One Step back from the kerb. Look! Continuously, both ways. Listen! For the sounds of approaching traffic. Think! Whether it is safe to cross and keep checking until safely across.
3. Keep safe getting in and out of the car. Always use the door closest to the kerb.
4. Keep safe getting on and off the bus. Wait at the bus stop and stand at least one step back from the edge of the road. Always meet your child at the bus stop. Never meet them on the opposite side of the road and call them across. Wait until the bus has gone, before you cross the road.
5. Hold hands to cross the road. Until they are ten, children should hold an adult's hand.
6. Wearing a helmet. Children must wear a helmet when riding a bike in any public place – it’s the law. Foot scooter, skateboard and rollerblade riders should wear helmets and protective gear such as knee and elbow pads. Be a positive role model when you are a pedestrian, passenger and driver.
Children learn from what they see, as well as what we say. Never sacrifice safety for convenience.

Photos and Social Media
We ask that families refrain from posting video images or photos of this event onto social media that contain images of children that are not their own. This includes images of children who appear in the background of photos. This is to ensure the safety and privacy of all children at the school.
We thank everyone for their cooperation and understanding in this matter.
If you are interested in helping out with any of our sporting pursuits, please contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au. Parental involvement is a wonderful way to build school and family connections, and we encourage partnerships of this nature. We have a wonderful parent community that has a wealth of expertise that we could use to increase our students participation in physical activities. However, expertise is not a prerequisite for getting involved; an extra set of hands is always useful!
Is your child interested in playing soccer? Port Macquarie Football Club has vacancies in the mixed u7's, u10's, u12's and U14's. Contact can be made via the club's Facebook site or email secretary@portmacquariefc.com
Does your child want to play Rugby Union? All Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union clubs (Hastings Valley Vikings, Port Pirates and Port Macquarie Hogs) are looking for players in the U10's (children turning 9 and 10 this year) and the U12's (Children turning 11 and 12 this year). This is open to both boys and girls. Games are held at the same time at Stuart Park on a Friday night. Contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.
Do you have a junior sporting team that requires players? Are you part of a sporting club that is looking to increase numbers and promote your organisation? Do you have a child that wants to join a team or play a sport, but don’t know where to start? Do you have an adult team that requires players and want to put the word out to our parent community? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then please send an email to craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au explaining what you require.
Centred In Christ and With Love For One Another, St Agnes’ Learners are:
Wow! What a week it has been for our school community. We managed to get through three amazing days of workshops with The Sydney Dance Company for our students in Years 3-6. Our dancing educators were wonderful. They inspired all who participated to have a go and have fun.

The start of each workshop was a chance for the students to learn about The Sydney Dance Company and what they do as well as learning about the company values that all performers must adhere to and follow as part of a professional creative community. The values are around Safety, Respect, Commitment, Kindness, and Communication. The above statements resonated with our students as these values are part of what we offer to our students throughout their educational journey in a Catholic School. These values also align with our Postive Behaviour Support (PBS) and focus on following the four R’s Respectful, Repsonsile, Resilient and Resolute.
This week we have continued working on how to be Respectful. We need to treat others how we would like to be treated.
It is nearly the end of Term 2, which means our House Cup Treat Day for the most dojo points for following our whole school expectations is fast approaching. This treat day will be in week 10, Friday 25 June during the middle session. Next week we will be announcing the winning house team who will participate in the treat day. Congratulations to the Kennedy house team who are the winning team for receiving the most dojos this week.
