Dear Parents and Carers
Our school has been a buzz this week. We have had NAPLAN assessments, excursions to the Glasshouse and Timbertown, writing competition winners having morning tea with the Port Macquarie Mayor Peta Pinson, Golf Day preparations and even a visit from our Director of Lismore Catholic Schools, Dr Sally Towns.
Over $500 has been donated to the flood appeal so far this term from the profits made through Craft for Service. The students involved have discovered some fantastic new craft ideas for the remainder of the term. Thank you to everyone who has purchased these great gifts from the front office. We hope the recipients of the gifts were as enthusiastic as those students who made them.
World Record Attempt - Longest washing line of socks
St Agnes’ Primary are supporting the Port Macquarie West Rotary Club in trying to break the current world record held by Germany for the “longest washing line of socks”. We are asking for you to send in any odd or lonely socks from home, or even pairs of socks that you might not like to wear. The socks don’t need to be new or free from holes - just clean. These can be dropped into the front office and will be collected throughout the month of May. You can enter a lucky door prize by adding your name, phone number and a donation inside the sock. The major Prize winners of this draw will win a $1000 Hastings Co-op voucher or one of 10, $50 gift vouchers. The Year Six Community Connections Team will be coordinating this activity for the next three weeks.
Golf Day
We are all ready for a fun day on Sunday. It is exciting to have so many teams registered who are current and past parents, ex-students and staff members along with some long standing regular supporters.
Some spots are still available to participate in this wonderful community event with fabulous prizes on offer thanks to our amazing sponsors.
NAPLAN
Congratulations to our Year 3 and 5 students who have completed the bulk of their NAPLAN assessments this week. All of the students were positive and resilient. Please know that if your child has been absent during this week, we will be running catch up tests at the beginning of next week. A special thank you to the Year 3 and 5 teaching teams, as well as Sharon Hugo, Bruce McConnell, Lucy Brown, Jessica Stewart and Claire Thurlow for supporting this hugely successful testing period.
This week at Aggies
Thank you to the Kindergarten team for always sending their amazing “Authors of the Day” to the office for us to share in their stories. We love seeing them dressed in their superhero capes, ready to share their superstar writing!

Diocesan Rugby Union Challenge
Preparations continue for the St Agnes’ rugby team who will be taking on other schools from the Diocese of Lismore at Coffs Harbour in Week 7. While the weather has provided challenges, the boys have been ripping in whenever they can. Their enthusiasm and commitment is wonderful to see. The boys will train at school most days until the big day arrives.
Athletics Carnival
The recent spate of wet weather has slowed down our athletics carnival preparations, but we hope to see our students running, jumping, and throwing again soon. We will be making an announcement in regards to parents as spectators and helpers soon.
There have been rumours circulating that some parents would like to enter a team in the teacher/student relay. These are just rumours at this stage, but the teachers welcome the chance to compete against any adults that would like to have a go in the last event of the day.
Year 3 and 4 NRL/Rugby Union
Students in Year 3 and 4 who are interested in a regular game of tackle Rugby League and Rugby Union will have taken permission notes home this week. Mr Brazel will run a regular game of either rugby code during the week. This will involve contact and tackling in a very controlled setting. All interested students are welcome and experience is not necessary. The games will be non competitive and enjoyment will be the primary goal. All students who hope to play each week will have to have shown the 4 R’s all week to ensure they get a run. This game is a result of student voice. We will be offering a similar experience to students in Years 5 and 6 later in the term.
Golf
All students will be participating in specialised golf clinics in the coming weeks. We are hoping to expose the students to this sport, and who knows, we may uncover our very own Dustin Johnson or Jin Young Ko.
It has been wonderful to have some families reach out and ask for assistance in getting their child involved in community sports in the last few weeks.
If you are interested in helping out with any of our sporting pursuits, please contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au. Parental involvement is a wonderful way to build school and family connections, and we encourage partnerships of this nature. We have a wonderful parent community who have a wealth of expertise that we could use to increase our students participation in physical activities. However, expertise is not a prerequisite for getting involved; an extra set of hands is always useful!
Does your child want to play Rugby Union?
All Port Macquarie Junior Rugby Union clubs (Hastings Valley Vikings, Port Pirates and Port Macquarie Hogs) are looking for players in the U10s (children turning 9 and 10 this year) and the U12s (Children turning 11 and 12 this year). This is open to both boys and girls. Games are held at the same time at Stuart Park on a Friday night. Contact craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au if you have any questions.
Do you have a junior sporting team that requires players? Are you part of a sporting club that is looking to increase numbers and promote your organisation? Do you have a child that wants to join a team or play a sport, but don’t know where to start? Do you have an adult team that requires players and want to put the word out to our parent community? If the answer is ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then please send an email to craig.brazel@lism.catholic.edu.au explaining what you require.
