Principal Message
A New Chapter Begins at St Agnes'
Dear St Agnes' School Community,
It is with immense joy and excitement that I write to you as your newly appointed Principal.
The warmth of your appreciation and well wishes has been overwhelming, and I am deeply moved by the genuine care and support you have shown me during this transition. Your generous welcome has confirmed what I already knew – that St Agnes' is a truly special community built on faith, love, hope in a shared commitment to our children's growth and development.
I cannot wait to continue supporting this wonderful school community and to bring fresh ideas and innovative thinking to our already strong educational foundation. Together, we will build upon the excellent work that has come before us while embracing new opportunities to enhance the learning experience for every child in our care.
Our Vision: Bringing Fullness of Life
At the heart of St Agnes' School lies our sacred vision rooted in the words of Jesus: "I have come that they might have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10). This profound promise guides everything we do as an educational community. We are committed to nurturing not just academic excellence, but the whole child – mind, body, and spirit – ensuring that each student experiences the fullness of life that Christ intended.
Our vision extends beyond the classroom walls to encompass spiritual growth, emotional wellbeing, social development, and the cultivation of values that will serve our students throughout their lives. We strive to create an environment where every child can discover their unique gifts, develop their talents, and grow in confidence as they journey toward their God-given potential.
Learning and Teaching Excellence
Central to our mission is our unwavering commitment to ensuring that every child receives quality learning and teaching. We believe that excellence in education is not a privilege for some, but a right for all. Our dedicated team of educators works tirelessly to create engaging, differentiated, and meaningful learning experiences that cater to the diverse needs, interests, and learning styles of every student.
We are committed to:
- Providing innovative and evidence-based teaching practices that inspire curiosity and foster deep learning
- Creating inclusive classroom environments where every child feels valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential
- Utilising contemporary learning technologies and resources to enhance educational outcomes
- Developing critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills essential for success in the 21st century
- Maintaining high expectations for all students while providing the support necessary for them to achieve their goals
St Agnes' School has a rich tradition of academic excellence, pastoral care, and community spirit. As we move forward together, we will build upon these strong foundations while embracing opportunities for growth and innovation. I am excited to work collaboratively with our talented staff, supportive families, and engaged students to explore new possibilities and implement fresh approaches to learning and teaching.
Partnership
Education is a partnership, and I am committed to walking alongside our students, families, and staff as we journey together toward excellence. I believe in open communication, collaborative decision-making, and the power of working together to achieve common goals. Your insights, ideas, and involvement are not just welcomed but essential to our continued success.
I look forward to getting to know each of you personally, to learning about your hopes and dreams for your children, and to working together to make those dreams a reality. Together, we will ensure that every child at St Agnes' experiences the joy of learning, the support of community, and the love of Christ in all that we do.
The adventure begins now, and I cannot wait to see what wonderful things we will accomplish together in service of our students and in faithful response to our calling to bring fullness of life to every child in our care.
Grounds Improvement Update
We are delighted to share the wonderful transformation of our school entrance and grounds. Thanks to dedicated efforts from our maintenance team and generous volunteers, our school environment has been beautifully enhanced with fresh landscaping.
A heartfelt thank you to David Hotham, our maintenance staff member, whose hard work in planting new greenery, enriching soil, and laying fresh mulch has created a welcoming entrance for our school community.
We are also incredibly grateful to staff members Andrew Wilson and Steve Behan, who generously donated their weekend time to support this important work. Their willingness to go above and beyond demonstrates the true community spirit that makes our school special.
We hope you enjoy the fresh, inviting entrance and improved grounds.

Maintenance and Grounds
David and his team's commitment and expertise ensure our school facilities remain secure, well-maintained and visually appealing for our entire school community. Their dedicated work, often unseen, plays a vital role in fostering the positive learning environment our school is known for.
We value the meticulous approach and genuine care demonstrated in all aspects of facility and grounds maintenance throughout the year.
Exciting projects are planned for the upcoming holiday period, including installing a shade sail over the sandpit area, completing essential roofing repairs on a walkway veranda, and preparing our vegetable garden for spring planting. These improvements will further enhance our students' learning and play experiences.
Environmental Project Update
Our Years Five and Six students have once again demonstrated their commitment to environmental stewardship by completing Stage 2 of our school planting project. Special commendation goes to our Six Love class, along with other dedicated students who participated in this important initiative. A big thank you to Mr Simon Hersee for his invaluable support and guidance in making this project possible. His expertise and enthusiasm have been instrumental in bringing this environmental initiative to life.
Six new swamp mahogany trees have been successfully planted along the western perimeter of the Bottom Oval, adding to our growing green canopy. These native trees will provide valuable benefits for years to come, creating much-needed shade for outdoor activities and play areas. The environmental impact extends beyond our school grounds, as these trees will contribute to local wildlife habitat, particularly benefiting our native koala population. It's wonderful to see our students actively participating in conservation efforts that will create a positive legacy for future generations.
This hands-on learning experience not only beautifies our school environment but also teaches our students about environmental responsibility and the importance of caring for our natural surroundings. We look forward to watching these trees grow alongside our students, providing shade and habitat for many years to come. Well done to all involved in making this project a success!

Media Team Captures St Agnes' in Action
Last week, St Agnes' Primary School welcomed our DLCS professional media team to showcase the wonderful experiences and opportunities our school community provides. The team has been working closely with us to develop authentic parent and staff testimonials that will feature across the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools websites, career platforms, RITE projects, and social media channels.
The filming and photography sessions captured the essence of daily life at St Agnes', featuring our students engaged in learning, our dedicated staff in action, and parents sharing their experiences of being part of our school community. These genuine testimonials will help tell the story of what makes St Agnes' such a special place for families to belong and potential enrolments.
In addition to testimonials, the media team captured fresh photographs that will enhance our school publications and website platforms, ensuring our online presence truly reflects the vibrant learning environment we have created together.
Our students, staff, and parents were wonderful ambassadors for our school throughout the filming process this week, authentically representing the values, spirit, and excellence that define St Agnes' Primary School.
Keep an eye out for this exciting project appearing online in the coming months. We're confident these materials will beautifully showcase the exceptional educational journey we provide and the strong sense of community that makes St Agnes' truly special.
With excitement and anticipation.

Catholic Schools Week
This week as we celebrated Catholic Schools Week we continued to focus on the theme of 'Pilgrims of Hope'. This theme aligns with the broader Jubilee Year initiative proclaimed by Pope Francis, emphasizing hope, renewal, and unity. Activities this week highlighted the importance of Catholic education in fostering hope and resilience, encouraging reflection on building a hopeful and compassionate world.
We did this through a Prayer Pilgrimage encountered by each class, gathering together as a faith community in mass, promoting the Catholic Social Teachings in supporting those in need and nurturing the environment by planting trees on the bottom oval. We also shared in the musical talents of our community through student participation at our Sunday night Family Mass, during the Band Concert on Wednesday morning provided by Little Muzos and the great efforts of our choir and musicians during our Catholic Schools Week Mass. Along with this, we celebrated student learning, continued to support well being and encouraged great sportsmanship in preparation and participation in the Athletics Carnival.
It was wonderful to have so many family and friends join us throughout the week

As part of the Jubilee Year of Hope celebrations, Newman Senior Technical College was asked to build a boat for the Lismore Diocese. The Jubilee Boat is being transported to each town in the diocese from Tweed Heads to Laurieton. We are grateful to Father Paul for making this available to each school. This week staff and students were excited to host it for our Catholic Schools Week Mass on Wednesday. Thank you to Dave Hotham for transporting it between schools for us.

Hot Chocolate Fundraiser
At a recent student voice meeting between Class Representatives and the SRC it was requested we have a hot chocolate fundraiser to raise money for those in need. Hot chocolate sold on Wednesday was a hit. Thank you to the students who sold the tickets, to Mrs Todd, Mrs O’Brien and Mrs de Bressac for organising the hot chocolate and to Mrs McEntyre, Mrs Brazel, Mrs Newall, Mrs Welsh and Mrs Martin for helping to make sure everyone enjoyed their treat. We raised enough money to buy 13 sleeping bags from the sales, which has been added to the 13 already purchased from last week’s 'Footy Jumper/State of Origin - Round 2' initiative.
On Tuesday 1 July the SRC will attend the Homeless Collective to formally present our purchases to representatives from The Homeless Collective and St Vincent de Paul. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has contributed to this fundraiser.

Winter Appeal - Out Of Uniform Day
Please continue to bring in warm blankets and clothes no longer needed as we continue to collect these to be distributed to the needy this term.
Friday 4 July is our Winter Woolies Day. Students can come out of uniform wearing their warmest clothes for a gold coin donation. The proceeds will be donated to the Homeless Collective.

St Agnes' Host Family Mass
A wonderful representation of staff and students attended last Sunday night’s Parish Family Mass hosted by our school. Staff and students took part in each of the ministries on offer and provided a warming supper of soup, noodles and bread for parishioners as they made their way home. Thanks to all who attended. We look forward to hosting again next term.

Farewell
This week we say thank you and farewell to April Crutcher. April has worked with staff, students and families as an Indigenous Education Worker for the past two years. We are grateful for her sharing of culture, support for learning and care. April is moving on to a new role in Mental Health Support and we know she will be a wonderful asset to the community in that role. Best wishes April.

Glow
Last Friday Year Six students attended the Glow Retreat at St Joseph’s Regional High School. This is the first year for this gathering which involved all Year Six students from our neighbouring Catholic Schools. The Wildfire Band led the day along with other Catholic Schools Office staff to promote Jesus as our light and protector. Here are some responses from Six Faith.
My Highlight of the whole day at GLOW was connecting with other schools and meeting new friends and the most wonderful part of all was when wildfire (The Band) came on and they pulled us up at the front and we started dancing with all my friends and friends from other schools. It was pretty fun, and the message was to always remember God is light and there is no darkness within him. Jade Johnson
My favourite part of the day was when wildfire (the band) came on and started playing their songs and everyone came to the front and it was like a concert but for religion. And also it was very exciting that we got to see our friends from other schools and talk to them, and also meet new people from other schools. Emme Constantine
My highlight was when there was the video about some people getting lost (5 which was played by wildfire) when they were playing spotlight and then a dude got lost and prayed to God to be found and he was found in the end. It showed that God is light. Jada Ustariz
My favourite part about glow was when the message behind all of the stories people were telling was how god is the light and the light protects you wherever you go. And making new friends. Malakai Cain
I quite liked the glow and meeting others and the band wildfire. And I also liked receiving the fire pin/badge. It is very nice. Owen Nesbit
My highlight of the day was how we learned that God is light and in him there is no darkness. 1 John 1:5 Chase Owen

Kinder Liturgy
Kindergarten students attended the chapel for the first time this week. Father Alejo introduced them to different symbols in the Church and celebrated a Liturgy on Belonging to God’s Family. Last term’s Kinder Liturgy was held at school due to terrible weather. They were very excited about their mini excursion and showed great reverence and respect. Thank you to the teachers and families who attended to support their faith journey.

Biggest Morning Tea
Almost 1 in 2 Australians will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85.
The morning tea will help raise vital funds to bring us closer to a cancer free future. Thank you so much to the School Community Forum volunteers for leading this on our Athletics Carnival Day and to all families who supported it.

Evie and Hunter Compete at Polding Cross Country
Congratulations to Evie E and Hunter F, who travelled to Sydney to compete in the Polding Cross Country Carnival on Wednesday 11 June. The event was held at the Sydney Equestrian Centre and brought together top Catholic school athletes from Northern Sydney to Tweed.
Both runners had already achieved success through three selection rounds to reach this level of competition. Evie competed in the 8/9 Years Girls race, running a 2km course and finishing an impressive 10th in her age group. Hunter ran a 3km course in the 11 year boys' race, placing 20th in his age group.
What an outstanding achievement for two of our athletes. Well done, Hunter and Evie — you’ve made us proud!

Strong Showing for Aggies at Diocesan Rugby Union Trials
On Thursday 12 June, six Aggies students travelled to Alstonville in Northern NSW to compete in the Diocesan Rugby Union Trials. Congratulations to Ryan C, Zane B, Kruze D, Harry J, Jho’Arynn C and Oliver W, who gave their all in what was a tough, full-contact day of rugby.
Having six students selected to participate at this level is a fantastic reflection of the talent within our school’s sporting community. All six boys demonstrated great effort, teamwork, and resilience on the field. Well done to each of them for representing Aggies with pride.
Following the trials, three students, Zane, Jho’Arynn and Kruze, caught the attention of selectors and have been chosen to progress to the Polding Trials, which will be held in Forbes next week.
We congratulate them on their achievement and wish them the best of luck as they aim for selection in the Polding Team to compete at the NSW PSSA Rugby Union Championships.
Well done boys.

Aggies Shine at NSW All Schools Netball Cup Gala Day
Last Tuesday, approximately 95 Aggies students from Years Five and Six took part in the NSW All Schools Netball Cup. The event featured both a competitive and a social league, welcoming a wide range of players, from experienced representatives to students trying netball for the first time.
Aggies proudly fielded four mixed competitive teams and eight mixed social teams. Across both leagues, students played six 20-minute games throughout the day. Many teams had no substitutes, and some students even filled in for multiple teams, resulting in a large number of tired but determined athletes by the end of the event.
The Netball Cup also served as a zone qualifier for the North Coast Regional Finals, to be held in Port Macquarie on Tuesday 26 August. From our competitive teams, Aggies Love finished the day undefeated and earned selection for the finals - an outstanding achievement! A special mention also goes to Aggies Faith, Aggies Hope and Aggies Joy for their fantastic performances and sportsmanship on the courts.
A huge well done to all the students who participated. You represented Aggies with pride both on and off the court.
Thank you to Mr Behan, Mrs Alchin, Mr Nalletamby and Ms Kershaw for supporting the students and helping make the day such a success.

Diocesan Rugby Union Challenge
Our Year Five and Six Rugby Union team can be very proud of their efforts at the Lismore Diocesan Rugby Gala Day on Wednesday last week. Due to the recent wet weather, our preparation was hampered, and the team did not get to train together before the event. We also had some players withdraw late due to illness. This did not stop our team, who advanced to the semifinals of what is a highly competitive tournament. They were denied a place in the finals by the slimmest of margins.
Our team displayed great skill, toughness, determination, and courage in every game they played. They also exhibited exemplary sportsmanship and earned the praise of opposition coaches and match officials.
The team was disappointed not to make the final, but they showed great resilience in the way they accepted defeat.
The school thanks the parents who made the effort to transport the players on the day.

Mila Represents Polding at the NSW PSSA Basketball Championships
Last week, Mila S in Year Six travelled to Sydney to compete in the NSW PSSA Basketball Championships. She was selected as a member of the Polding Team, one of only two Catholic school teams invited to this prestigious state-level competition each year. Mila’s selection to the Polding Team came after progressing through four rounds of trials, where she played alongside talented students from Catholic schools across Northern NSW, a fantastic achievement!
The event ran over four days, beginning with a training session on Monday, followed by three consecutive days of high-level competition. Over the three days of competition, the Polding Team delivered strong performances. During the pool rounds on Days one and two, they recorded four wins and two losses, securing a place in the 5th/6th place playoff match. In a hard-fought game, the team was defeated by Sydney South West, with a final score of 20–35.
The Polding Team finished 6th out of fourteen teams, a commendable result in a highly competitive field.
Well done, Mila! You’ve done your school proud.
Here is what Mila had to say about her experience.
“On Monday, the 15th of July, I started my journey to the PSSA championship. Before we began playing games on Tuesday, I had to meet my team and learn things I didn't know before, all while having a great time with my new teammates. On Tuesday, it was game day, and I can tell you firsthand, it was nerve-racking. We didn't know how anyone played. We were on live TV, and there was my mum telling me NOT to be nervous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Our first game was one of the toughest I have personally ever played in my whole career, but after losing our first game of the day, we managed to win the other two. The next day, we were more confident. The more games we played together as a team, the stronger we got, and in the end, we won four games straight and made it to the semifinals. That was a tough game, and we ended up losing to the opposition team, but honestly, they deserved to go to the finals. In the end, we came 3rd out of all the Catholic schools and 6th out of all the Catholic and public schools.”

Aggies Girls Set to Shine at Polding Touch Football Selections
Next Thursday, three Aggies students will compete in the Polding Touch Football Selections in Lake Cathie. Stella D (Year 6), Mia B and Ivy G (both Year Five) have been eagerly awaiting this opportunity since earning selection at the Diocesan level back in December 2024.
After months of waiting, the girls are excited and ready to showcase their skills. On the day, Stella, Mia and Ivy will aim to impress selectors in hopes of securing a spot on the Polding Touch Football Team, which will go on to compete at the NSW PSSA Championships in Mudgee from August 19–21.
Best of luck to our Aggies girls, and we look forward to hearing about your experiences and results.
Aggies Team Heads to Coffs Harbour for Paul Kelly Cup AFL Regional Finals
Next Tuesday, a team of 15 Aggies players will travel to Coffs Harbour to compete in the Paul Kelly Cup AFL Regional Finals. Typically, teams qualify for this event through Zone trials; however, due to poor weather earlier in the term, those trials were unable to take place.
Hosted by AFL NSW/ACT, the Paul Kelly Cup is open to all schools and serves as a key pathway event. The winning team from the regional finals will progress to the NSW/ACT Championship held in Sydney.
This is an exciting opportunity for our students to showcase their talent on the AFL field. For some players, it will be their first time competing in the AFL code, making the experience even more special. Good luck to the team.
