From the Leaders
In Sunday’s Gospel from John the message is that people want to follow Jesus, not so much for what he is saying, but for what he can give them. The people wanted Jesus to satisfy their hunger for food. He was concerned with satisfying them with food for their hearts and souls, not just their stomachs. Jesus says, “I am the bread of life.” The one thing God wants us to do is trust that Jesus is the one who can really satisfy our deeper hunger.
School Attendance
The Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools have updated procedures for monitoring and supporting parents regarding student attendance. This update involves communication via Compass that will notify parents each Term if a student’s attendance is below 90%. This communication is to reinforce the partnership between home and school, and the vital role that parents play in the education of students.
We acknowledge that there may be many reasons for absences, but we will work together to support students attending school on a regular (above 95%) basis. Research is clear that regular attendance will contribute to positive outcomes in all areas of school and post school.
We value your partnership in ensuring that all our students benefit from consistent attendance. If there are issues regarding attendance please contact the school, and we look forward to respectfully and collaboratively supporting your child.
Sacrament of Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation continues, strengthens, confirms and celebrates the gifts of the Holy Spirit received in Baptism. In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the bishop lays his hands on the baptised person and prays that the Holy Spirit will fill the person with spiritual gifts. Then, using holy oil, the bishop makes a cross on the person’s forehead. It is usual for the person being confirmed to take on an extra name, that of a particular saint. The saint will be a source of inspiration by the way he/she lived life while on earth, and an intercessor in prayer to God. This term Catholic students in Years 3 and above will receive this sacrament.
Families of students who are eligible to receive this sacrament later in the term have been notified. Please contact the school office if you have not received information and your child has already been baptised a Catholic.
Kindergarten 2025
This is a most exciting time for our school community when potential students and families for Kinder 2025 join us for their interviews in readiness for starting school. We look forward to getting to know these young people in anticipation of assisting them on their primary school journey.
Year 5 Mass
Year 5 families are invited to attend Mass at Christ the King Chapel on Thursday 8 August at 10:15am.
Thank You!
This week we were able to deliver the proceeds from our out of uniform Winter Woolies Appeal. $200 each was donated to St Vincent de Paul, Sr Marjorie’s Soup Kitchen and Our Place for those in need in our local community. The generous donations of non-perishable food items donated by Year 2 families were also delivered and received graciously by Sr Marjorie and Mick Gilmore for the ‘Homeless Collective' at the Youth Hub. Thank you to all concerned for their generous support.
Art with Mrs Post
Kindergarten were engrossed in their learning with Mrs Kim Post with their paintings of a scarecrow.
Youth and Family Mass
Please join us on Sunday 18 August as our school hosts the 5:00pm Youth and Family Mass. Our students will be involved in choir, welcoming and reading. We look forward to celebrating together with students, families and staff.
Creative Arts Spectacular
Our St Agnes’ Creative Arts Spectacular is fast approaching. It is on Thursday 29 August at Panthers Port Macquarie.
Thank you to all those families who were able to come to our Drama and Dance workshop last Sunday. We had over 100 children attend and we are all so appreciative of the families who gave up their time on Sunday. This week, it has been very pleasing to see the confidence that has grown in each student who participates in the lunchtime drama and dance sessions. Tickets will be going on sale for our night in Week 4.
Census
The Australian Government Department of Education would like to advise all staff, parents and guardians that it will collect certain information about our school, its staff and student body as part of the 2024 Non-government schools census collection.
Please see below flyer.
Raffle
Next week we begin selling raffle tickets for our prizes donated by the Bushe family of a Nintendo Switch, Port Macquarie Monopoly game and a jigsaw puzzle. Tickets will be 50 cents each and available at Lunch 1 outside of the office. The raffle will be drawn in the last week of Term 3. All proceeds from the raffle will be donated to our social justice cause, Sr Marjorie’s Soup Kitchen at “Our Place” located at the Youth Hub.
Term 3 Class Representatives
Uniform - Second Hand
As we are now a few years into the introduction of the new school uniform, we would appreciate it if any families have uniforms that are too small, can possibly send them into the school. We have times when children may require emergency uniforms after a toileting accident or getting wet, but we currently do not have any available supplies of sizes 4-12. We would greatly appreciate any support from families.
Look What's Back!
The Catholic social teaching principle of human dignity is about understanding that each of us is made in God’s image. Human dignity is given freely to all human beings.
At St Agnes’ Primary School we respect and uphold the dignity of every human being. One way we are promoting this is through showing we care about all members of our school and parish through donating to those in need.

NSW Netball School Cup - Years 3 and 4
On 11 September, Year 3 and 4 students will have the opportunity to participate in the Netball NSW School Cup. Similar to the Year 5 and 6 gala day in Term 2, all students are invited to play and can choose between competitive or non-competitive leagues. This is a great opportunity for both girls and boys to experience netball for the first time or to showcase their skills in the competitive league. Teams are currently being drafted, and event notes will be posted soon on Compass.
NSW Touch Football Gala Day
St Agnes' will once again participate in the NSW Touch Football Gala Day. This non-competitive event is designed for all students in Years 3 to 6, focusing on fun and inclusion while introducing the game of touch football to anyone interested in playing. This year, St Agnes' is sending 27 teams, each consisting of players with varying levels of experience. The event will take place on Thursday 5 September, at Tuffin’s Lane. Additional information and notes for the gala day will be posted on Compass in the coming week.
KM Club
This week, we launched the Term 3 KM Club. Braving the windy and chilly weather, numerous students headed to the bottom oval with their friends to start their laps for the term. The KM Club is a non-competitive, enjoyable activity that students can join before the school day begins. Open to all students, it encourages them to set personal goals, work towards a collective school objective, and engage in physical exercise at their own pace.
The KM Club meets from 8:25am to 8:55am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. We extend our gratitude to the Year 6 leaders for their assistance in managing the club each morning. Their support and leadership are greatly appreciated.
