From the Leaders

Each liturgical year the Church celebrates the entire life of Jesus. This week we prepare to celebrate his coming as the year opens in Advent.
As a faith community, we spend four weeks preparing to celebrate Jesus’ birth but also his coming at the end of time. The prophets, John the Baptist, and Mary are important figures in Advent. John the Baptist was so respected that even the Pharisees and Saduccees, the most respected religious people of the time, came to him for his baptism of forgiveness. In Advent we are asked to stay awake and be ready for Jesus’ coming.

International Day of Persons with Disabilities
IDPWD is a United Nations observed day held on 3 December each year that aims to increase public awareness, understanding and inclusion of people with disability. One in six Australians – or 4.4 million people are living with a disability.
At St Agnes’ Primary we will be raising awareness for some of these in class during Week 9. Each grade has been learning about a different disability and on Tuesday 5 December will wear the colour representing that foundation.
Kindergarten - Hearing loss (Dark Blue)
Year 1 - Visual loss (Green)
Year 2 - Autism (Blue)
Year 3 - Dyslexia (Red)
Year 4- Tourettes (Dark Green)
Year 5 - Mental Health Conditions (Green)

Year 2
In Visual Art, Year 2 have been learning to create artworks about their surroundings. They have been exploring how artists make tints of colours and use different painting techniques to show the ocean.

Police Talk - Student Safety
Kindergarten to Year 6 students received a presentation from the police on Tuesday emphasising the significance of personal safety in both physical and online environments. The talk aimed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to protect themselves and make responsible choices in their daily lives, whether in the real world or online. Topics covered included vaping, graffiti, social media apps, attendance at school, gaming, online bullying and social media.

Aggies Christmas Carols
We look forward to having families join us to participate in the St Agnes’ Carols by Candlelight on Tuesday 5 December.

Library News
This week was the last week to borrow from the Library. Please return all Library books by the end of term.
Any students with overdue books will receive a note identifying the titles of these books. Your children have been asked to look under beds and through bookshelves at home as we know books do like to hide away in interesting places.
If you believe the books have been returned please let me know via monique.mcentyre@lism.catholic.edu.au so I can have a look for it in the library.
PBS

This week our PBS focus is 'I am responsible and I use my self control during learning time'.
The purpose of this lesson is to learn to be responsible during learning time. When we teach them to notice their behaviours and what is appropriate and inappropriate, they can become more aware of the choices and decisions they are making. The goal is to clearly define classroom expectations by giving students a voice on what behaviours contribute to a positive and healthy working environment for everyone, and bring awareness to how actions impact them, others and the classroom learning environment. We need to empower our students to be in control of their own actions.
Next Wednesday will be our House Cup Treat day. The winning house receiving the most Dojos this term for following our 4 R’s will celebrate.
