Tuckerbox Prayer
What is tuckerbox?
Tuckerbox prayer is an open group session where students (K-6) are invited to attend to celebrate their faith. Tuckerbox Prayer at St. Agnes’ includes; singing songs, playing games, writing in the shared prayer journal, drawing or colouring in scripture passages. We meet regularly. What is Mini Vinnies?
At St. Agnes’ Mini Vinnies is a group of students (Years 3-6) who get together to help those in need within our school community. Mini Vinnies introduces children to social justice issues, to the St Vincent de Paul Society and to living faith through action. The group is supported by a teacher and by the local St Vincent de Paul representative.
What does our St. Agnes’ Mini Vinnies group do?
Mini Vinnies is about doing good works in the community, but it is also about our students meeting to talk and share ideas and concerns, to have fun and to support each other. The Vinnies model of ‘See, Think, Do’ is a great way to get our students thinking and talking about their spirituality; by connecting their beliefs and values with service activities and issues in their community, they can help make their faith real, meaningful and relevant. Typically the group will meet regularly and will set goals on what they want to do and achieve. The group will look at why they need to do something and how they will do it.
In our Port Macquarie area there is an opportunity to meet with representatives from other schools to celebrate our faith, share ideas and explore options to raise awareness of social justice. If any student would like to join Mini Vinnies they can contact Mrs O’Brien.
